The girls all get their dresses from Wichita, there’s nowhere to go around here
The boys all get their tuxes from Wichita, and ask the girls they love so dear
She said “I’ve been dreaming for years and year of this one night
I want everything to go perfectly. I want everything to be just right”
But by dinnertime a big, tall wind starting blowing, unbeknownst to those inside
There were pictures to be taken and dances to be had, and it seemed like they had time on their side

They said “This will be a night you won’t forget.” They were right, they were right.
I don’t want to go outside, not just yet. Hold me tight, hold me tight.

The lights went out and they all went downstairs without much cause for concern
Until the rumors started flying and the girls all started crying and a good night began to turn
He said “I just want to know where’s my family and are they alright?
Seems like tonight we have a guest that we did not invite”
The winds died down and they all went outside, Hoisington it looked much the same
But just a few blocks away there was rubble piled up from the houses that the winds had claimed

Parts of the town were perfect, neighbors’ lives went on unchanged
Others were not so lucky, had their living rooms rearranged
She said “I just want to know why me? Why not him? And why not her?
Just what is it about me that the big tall wind prefers?”
The kids had all been waiting for something big to happen in their sleepy neighborhood
Dressed for the occasion, they got just what they wished for bet they’d take it back if they could
