All I've Got
02:38
|
|||
Well I’ve got an old car I’ll take you on a date
But don’t be surprised if I’m ten minutes late
I’ve got an old car I’ll take you on a date
But don’t surprised if I’m twenty minutes late
If I’m twenty minutes late, twenty minutes late
I’ll take you to a movie I’ll take you to a show
Or any other place your little heart it wants to go
Take you to a movie take you to a show
Or any other place your little heart it wants to go
Your heart it wants to go, heart it wants to go
I’m afraid, I’m afraid that’s all I’ve got for you
I’m afraid, I’m afraid that’s all I’ve got for you
Well I think you’re cute and sweet and charming and I thought you should know
But I’m looking for my trusting heart I lost so long ago
Well I think you’re cute and sweet and charming and I thought you should know
But I’m looking for my trusting heart I lost so long ago
I lost so long ago, lost so long ago
So let’s go to the river, let’s go out to play
I’m just here to kill some time and then call it a day
So let’s go to the river, let’s go out to play
I’m just here to kill some time and then call it a day
Then call it a day, then call it a day
I’m afraid, I’m afraid that’s all I’ve got for you
I’m afraid, I’m afraid that’s all I’ve got for you

No Rest for the Weary
02:33
|
|||
I got a bad feeling one of us ain’t gonna make it
Bad feeling one of us ain’t gonna make it
This interstate is way too long
Sleep is singing its siren song
No rest for the weary
We’ve got no place to go, got no place to go
Whose idea was this? It certainly wasn’t mine
Whose idea was this? Cause I can promise you it wasn’t mine
Been two weeks since I felt clean
We’re almost out of gasoline
If we break down there’s no one can save us here, no one can save us here
Am I gonna hate you before this is all over?
Think I’m gonna hate you before this is all over
Didn’t ask you what you had to say
I know where I’m going anyway
You got it in for me, I’ve got it in for you, got it in for you

State Lines
02:30
|
|||
If I ever get away from here I’m taking you with me
Expectation’s closing in and killing us swiftly
So pick me up wedding-style, carry me away
Let the trade winds take the wheel, and lead us where they may
My whole life they been telling me “you better get out and change the world”
And I thought about it long and hard and said “what the hell for?”
You’ll just die and so will I and they’ll forget everything we’ve done
So I’m saving it for the next life if there is one
Take me home, take me home
I can’t stand it here, but I don’t want to be alone
See if you’re doing anything but exceeding then it’s unsatisfactory
And I’m tired of scales and points and fractions calibrating me
Forget about college and quit your job and I’ll quit mine
We’ll move into the country, and cross those states lines
Yeah why don’t we just get a house, a big family and a farm
With some earth to work my hands in, and a fire to keep me warm
We’ll raise our kids with values yeah we’re gonna teach them wrong from right
And when they’re all grown up and thriving we’ll fade with the light

When the Good Wind Blows
03:00
|
|||
When the good wind blows, tell ya something
That’s the time I dread
When the good wind blows, that’s when my baby
Blows right out of my bed, blows right out of my bed
Good sleep and good wind they ain’t friends
Gonna toss and turn in the gale til the night ends
Good sleep and good wind they ain’t friends
Ain’t no good cause to which the good wind lends
When the good wind blows, tell ya something
That’s the time I dread
When the good wind blows, that’s when my baby
Blows right out of my bed, blows right out of my bed
What I need from the good Lord is them good rains
Maybe good rain would wash away my pains
What I need from the good Lord is them good rains
Maybe good rain would wash my baby back here again
When the good wind blows I tell ya something
That’s the time I dread
When the good wind blows, that’s when my baby
Blows right out of my bed, blows right out of my bed

I Won't Cry for You
02:54
|
|||
Sweetness, sweetness you bid me goodbye
But don’t ever think that you’ll see me cry
Your leaving, your leaving caught me unaware
But I’m gonna save my tears for someone who cares
I won’t cry for you, won’t cry, won’t cry for you
I won’t cry for you, won’t cry, won’t cry for you
It’s been a long, long while but I still miss you so
I’ve been alone every night but I’ll never let you know
I’ll mourn in silence that’s how it must be
I won’t cry for you cause you won’t cry for me
I won’t cry for you, won’t cry, won’t cry for you
I won’t cry for you, won’t cry, won’t cry for you

Housecat
02:51
|
|||
What more, what more do you need
Than warm sun and a place to sleep
A little food in your belly
And a friend or two to keep?
I thought I’d be feral my whole life long
But little did I know
I’d end up tired and broken and broke
And for it, have nothing to show
I wanna be your housecat, I’ll stay at home every night
I wanna be your housecat, you make a girl feel alright
My God how I couldn’t wait to clean and preen
Stretch out full length and nap
My God how I couldn’t wait to sigh into your arms
And curl up in your lap
Don’t wanna do that stray cat strut no more
That life it just ain’t for me
All of a sudden it seems right here, right now
Is the only place I wanna be
I wanna be your housecat, I’ll stay at home every night
I wanna be your housecat, you make a girl feel alright
I wanna be your housecat, I’ll stay at home every night
I wanna be your housecat, you make a girl feel alright

Escape Artist
02:44
|
|||
What was I thinking? Trying to get away
Nothing’s any different I’m fated to live as a stray
How can I complain about being lonely, when all I wanna do is be alone?
It’s kind of hard when your heart won’t stop roaming and deep down you’re really tired to the bone
I was gonna dig myself into city streets and hope nobody would notice me
Why was I expecting anonymity? Thought if no one knew my name I could do what I please
How can I complain about being lonely when all I wanna do is be alone?
It’s kind of hard when your heart won’t stop roaming and deep down you’re really tired to the bone
Long, yellow lines can’t keep me company, I can’t take refuge in a stranger’s face
No one’s ever gonna wanna settle down with me if I can’t stay in one place

Bound for Glory
03:40
|
|||
Brother, you look tired
Are you weary like me?
Are you worn down to the marrow?
Are you longing to be free?
There’s a train, it’s bound for glory
And it sings low and sweet
There’s a train it’s, bound for nowhere
Oh, it’s bound for glory
Sister, you’re so quiet
Is there something you want to say?
I’ll be listening, we’ll be waiting
For that sweet train, someday
There’s a train, it’s bound for glory
And it sings low and sweet
There’s a train, it’s bound for nowhere
Oh, it’s bound for glory
I wanna lay down in the darkness
Can’t get no rest in that white, pearly light

Born Homesick
03:19
|
|||
When I was a girl if mama held me too long
I’d get up and leave, had to get up and leave
Now going about my day and nothing’s going wrong
But something here it says, I have to get up and leave
I’ve got a bellyache I don’t know what it’s called
Something here it says, I have to get up and leave
Don’t know what it comes from if anything at all
Something here it says, I have to get up and leave
You seem like a good boy, what you want me for?
Get up and leave, have to get up and leave
I think I might love you but I need something more
Something here it says, I have to get up and leave
It hurts to hold you too long I don’t know what to do
Something here it says, I have to get up and leave
Don’t know how to tell you, was hoping you just knew
Something here it says, I have to get up and leave
I was born homesick, I was born homesick
Born homesick, I was born homesick

Big Tall Wind
03:38
|
|||
The girls all get their dresses from Wichita, there’s nowhere to go around here
The boys all get their tuxes from Wichita, and ask the girls they love so dear
She said “I’ve been dreaming for years and year of this one night
I want everything to go perfectly. I want everything to be just right”
But by dinnertime a big, tall wind starting blowing, unbeknownst to those inside
There were pictures to be taken and dances to be had, and it seemed like they had time on their side
They said “This will be a night you won’t forget.” They were right, they were right.
I don’t want to go outside, not just yet. Hold me tight, hold me tight.
The lights went out and they all went downstairs without much cause for concern
Until the rumors started flying and the girls all started crying and a good night began to turn
He said “I just want to know where’s my family and are they alright?
Seems like tonight we have a guest that we did not invite”
The winds died down and they all went outside, Hoisington it looked much the same
But just a few blocks away there was rubble piled up from the houses that the winds had claimed
They said “This will be a night you won’t forget.” They were right, they were right.
I don’t want to go outside, not just yet. Hold me tight, hold me tight.
Parts of the town were perfect, neighbors’ lives went on unchanged
Others were not so lucky, had their living rooms rearranged
She said “I just want to know why me? Why not him? And why not her?
Just what is it about me that the big tall wind prefers?”
The kids had all been waiting for something big to happen in their sleepy neighborhood
Dressed for the occasion, they got just what they wished for bet they’d take it back if they could
They said “This will be a night you won’t forget.” They were right, they were right.
I don’t want to go outside, not just yet. Hold me tight, hold me tight.

Leaving Alone
02:30
|
|||
Got dolled up tonight, got ready to go
Girl’s gotta look good when she goin to play a show
But I don’t dress up for you, I dress up me
No I don’t need nothing to drink so honey go on and let me be
You came here to have a good time, I’ve got a job to do
No one’s getting in my way, especially you
So go on, relax, talk amongst your friends and such
You can look, you can listen, please don’t touch
I’m leaving alone, I’m leaving alone
Leaving alone so honey leave me alone tonight
Don’t know why I bother you’re not listening at all
You wanna talk at something, go and talk at the wall
Get your boozey liquor breath out of my face
And keep your cigarette ashes off my pearls and off my lace
I’m leaving alone, I’m leaving alone
Leaving alone so honey leave me alone tonight

The Good Ache
03:25
|
|||
You’re so honest it aches
Want to return the favor no matter what it takes
I thought that I’d made peace with the demons under my bed
Until you cracked me open with something that you said
My work is never done, my work is never done
My work is never done, the work is never done for me
You’ve got a lot of nerve to ask me a thing like that
And I was trying to pretend that I didn’t know the answer but on my shoulder there it sat
It took all my pride and effort just to keep my head held high
But I’m telling on myself because that posture was a lie
My work is never done, my work is never done
My work is never done, the work is never done for me
Somehow, even here, I find things that I love and hold so dear
Somehow I find, these things they get just a little bit lighter with some time
My work is never done, my work is never done
My work is never done, the work is never done for me
My work is never done, my work is never done
My work is never done, the work is never done for me
